This summer the Gypsy jazz school at la Chope des Puces is organizing a gypsy guitar course entirely dedicated to the waltz. Manouche waltz, gypsy waltz, swing waltz or musette waltz, all will be tackled according to their specificities.
The lessons will be given by Christophe Astolfi, expert in the genre and author of the third volume of « Astuces de la guitare manouche » published by Coup de Pouce editions.
The meeting is scheduled for July 11 and 12, 2020 at the Chope des Puces, in Saint-Ouen in the Paris region.
The mornings (10 am-12noon) will be devoted to the interpretation of the themes. You will work on the coordination left hand / right hand, how to swing a waltz, the use of open strings, create ornaments to personalize a melody, how to improvise in a 3 time tune.
The afternoons (2-4 p.m.) will be devoted to rhythm. The different rhythms according to the styles of the waltz, the comping at the bottom of the neck with the traditional bass game called « old fashioned ».
At 4 p.m. the jam session will start between the trainees.
To register it is not necessary to be a waltz expert but it is preferable to have a good knowledge of chords and arpeggios / scales in order to take full advantage of the course. It is not useful to know music theory.
PDF tablatures of the covered waltzes will be sent to all registrants ten days before the course in order to prepare properly.
Lunch will be at the Chope, you can enjoy the gypsy jazz concerts that will take place and fully immerse yourself in this culture in this cult place where all the great gypsy guitarists have played.
The price is 180 euros for the two days of lessons with lunch and concerts included.
A preferential rate will be granted to all trainees who wish to acquire the gypsy waltz method written by Christophe Astolfi.
For efficiency reasons the number of places will be limited to ten trainees.
